I have been involved in the Permaculture Scene since the early ‘90s
I ran Ragmans Lane Farm, a 60 acre farm in the Wye Valley for 35 years, hosting and sometimes co-teaching over a hundred courses taught by folk such as Bill Mollison, Sarah Pugh, Patrick Whitefield, Jairo Restrepo, Starhawk, Caroline Aitken, and many more.
I also farmed cattle, sheep and pigs, grew apples, shiitake mushrooms and set up early direct selling models in the ‘90s, co authoring the first Food Directory in 1997. Alongside Freya Davies I managed the people side of Ragmans as a platform for people to access land and run their businesses – perhaps the hardest thing of all!
The combination of Ragmans as a working, practical educational venue has given me a breadth of knowledge of the many approaches to ecological land use.
In 2024 I moved on from Ragmans Lane and am now concentrating on teaching and some consultancy. I am a lead tutor on the Bristol SHIFT course and am available as a teacher for day/weekend courses and online.
I love teaching and talking (maybe too much) about Permaculture, Biofertilisers, Biochar, Lactobacillus, Bokashi and soil microbes in general.
